Overview

Overview:

General Dynamics is the world's foremost designer and builder of nuclear submarines, the most complex machines made by man. Electric Boat develops and applies state of the art technology to the design and construction of nuclear powered submarines. With a team of highly skilled and dedicated employees, we have successfully designed the USS COLUMBIA, incorporating many new submarine technologies.

General Dynamics Electric Boat is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer. It is the policy of the Company to provide equal employment opportunities to all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, transgender status, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.

Non-Propulsion Plant Waterfront Major Area Team Leaders (MATLs) provide direct leadership and oversight of cross-functional Major Area Teams comprised of Engineering, Design, Operations, Planning, Materials, ILS, Test, Safety, Quality, vendors, and customer representatives. Waterfront MATLs work closely with the ER backlog reduction teams to reduce risk to the VIRGINIA Class certification program. MATLs are responsible to coordinate the spatial arrangement and integration of their assigned major ship design zones as defined by the Manufacturing Assembly Plan (MAP). MATLs interface with other teams, program management, and functional management on a continuous basis to ensure all issues are identified and resolved by engaging proper stakeholders. MATLs are directly responsible for the quality and schedule performance for area related activities and are expected to drive a multi-discipline team, including supervision, to the appropriate end result for the program.

MATLs drive technical results within the context of program requirements and oversight, which is a complex role. MATLs are responsible for the following specific activities:

MATLs plan and coordinate customer review and approval of the 3-D model arrangements for their assigned areas, and ensure the approval schedule supports the schedule requirements of downstream activities including design disclosure development, resolving ERs and CR/CNs, module end load evaluations, procurement, planning activities, manufacturing, and construction.

MATLs oversee the creation and execution of various systems engineering activities including trade studies that require multi-discipline integration to identify solutions which optimize the design based on normal, casualty and maintenance operations, construction cost and schedule, life cycle cost, and all applicable technical and programmatic requirements.

MATLs (in conjunction with their Operations counterparts) are responsible to ensure that the area design addresses and incorporates the Design for Production (DfP) principles and methods to provide a schedule efficient, cost effective Manufacturing Assembly Plan for the ship.

MATLs are responsible for the arrangement completion schedule, human engineering (i.e. HSI) requirements, maintenance/removal/TRIPER demonstrations, Design for Sustainability principles, and resolving inter-discipline conflict.

MATLs maintain responsibility for the 3-D arrangements of their assigned areas from concept development through customer approval of the 3-D models, construction design disclosure development, and ship construction.
