Overview

D440 Special Project Payload Launch Control Engineering

Department 440, develops in-house embedded systems and integrates government furnished equipment to support VIRGINIA class related Special Projects related to payload and launch control. D440 is responsible for Systems, Hardware, and Test. D440 works closely with Software Engineering D454.

Department 440 offers a flexible work arrangement that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on a few variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department.

SPECIAL PROJECTS SIMULATION & TEST

The Payload Launch Control Special Projects Simulation & Test group is responsible for VA special projects qualification test, simulators, and test equipment.

Simulation and Test responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Developing system and component level test procedures and scenarios that trace to system, hardware, and software requirements
  • Developing and executing test procedures and scenarios to verify system and component level requirements
  • Participating in environmental testing
  • Finding and troubleshooting bugs in the system
  • Developing and maintaining custom simulators, which model the behavior of ship systems and provide real-time input/output interfaces
  • Developing custom test equipment, used in construction grooming
  • Preparing test reports to document as-run test results
  • Developing system simulation to provide system-specific input/output responses

This position is for the Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) Platform Hardware Control (PHC) test lead. This role is geared more towards project or task management, mentoring, and coaching.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of engineers through a fast paced requirement based test program
  • Plan test events to ensure the team meets schedule within budget
  • Chairing the Joint Test Working Group (JTWG) with the Navy to come through qualification testing in an agile manor

The test lead member will work closely with other members of the Payload Launch Control Special Projects team in the Systems, Hardware, and Software Engineering groups to deliver products that meet or exceed quality, cost, and schedule requirements. In addition, the test team member will interact with subcontractor team members, Government test witnesses, and US Navy stakeholders.

Qualifications

Requirements:

Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or higher
  • Active or ability to acquire DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Test or troubleshooting experience
  • Navy Submarine Experience
  • Experience with Systems Engineering lifecycle and standards
  • Experience with IBM DOORS Rationale
Skills
